Mindfulness Challenge 2017 - Mindfulness Challenge 2017
Mindfulness Challenge at McLaughlin College
Mindfulness Challenge 2017 at MacLachlan College
MacLachlan College is delighted to be bringing Mindfulness Challenge 2017 to Oakville! We're a proud sponsor of the Challenge, and have seen the positive impact of mindfulness at our school, where every student has the opportunity to learn and practice it.

MacLachlan College is a great place to ride the wave of many people practising mindfulness together. The program will be live streamed from Daniels Spectrum, with mindful movement guidance by Kate Kerr from Wake Up Kate and yoga led by Natalie Suhanic of Creating Space Yoga Studio. See the Oakville Teachers section of The Event page for Kate and Natalie's bios.

Registration Fee: $25

How it works:
Mindfulness Challenge 2017 works like a walkathon or bikeathon - you ask people to sponsor you. We’ll provide you with the latest tools and great ideas to make it easy to reach your fundraising goal. We ask that when you register, you set a fundraising goal of at least $100. There are three fundraising levels:
  • Silver: raise $100 - $249
  • Platinum:  raise $250 - $499
  • Diamond:  raise $500 or more
The Mindfulness Program
The program includes a feast of mindfulness practices to awaken the senses and cultivate mindfulness and kindness. It is accessible, even for beginners. The theme of the day is Kindness, and the program is designed to generate kindness and open your heart in a powerful way. It's a great feeling!!

Short sitting meditations will be alternated with other mindfulness practices, including:
  • gentle yoga
  • mindful lunch
  • movement meditation
  • total relaxation (lying down meditation bringing kindness to the body)
  • kindness exercises
  • music meditation
  • 9:30 am Registration opens
  • 10:15 am Settle into the meditation hall
  • 10:30 am Orientation begins
  • 11:00 am Meditate-athon begins (includes lunch)
  • 3:00 pm Meditate-athon ends, Raffle & Awards
When to Arrive

Please plan to arrive by 10:00 am so you can check in, hang up your coat, and settle into the hall with ease. When you arrive early, you won't need to rush, and can relax and enjoy the present moment. What a great gift to yourself, and others.

Check-in includes checking your coat, getting your raffle tickets and any fundraising prizes (depending on your fundraising), and giving in any donation money you're holding or making a top-up donation. Plan on this taking 10 - 20 minutes.

Eating lunch is part of the program, and the program will flow continuously into and out of lunch, with no break for food preparation or warming. Please bring a prepared, ready-to-eat, cold lunch.
  • We invite you to practice kindness by choosing a lunch that does not harm animals or the planet.
Please NO peanut butter or nuts at MacLachlan College.

What to Bring
  • Yoga mat - Please bring your own
  • Sitting Cushion - If you want a sitting cushion, please bring your own. If you want to sit in a chair, we will provide one.
  • Water bottle
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for sitting or gentle yoga
  • Slippers (no shoes in the hall - we'll have plastic booties if you wish)
  • Blanket or sweater in case you get cold
  • Cash or cheques sponsors gave you
For those intending to bring a zabuton (thick mat for under the sitting cushion), please consider using your yoga mat instead - so you don't have to move the zabuton to the side for some activities. The sits won't be too long. However, if you need a zabuton to sit comfortably, that's no problem.

Cash & Cheque Donations
We will be able to accept donations, including any cash or cheques your sponsors gave you, and any top-up donations you wish to make. Please bring any cash or cheque donations to the event! For donors who want tax receipts, we'll need their address, postal code and email.

Please help us by entering your "offline" donations (cash or cheque) before you get here. Just login to the Participant Centre, click the "Enter Offline Donations" icon (2nd from the right of the white and red icons just below the menu), and enter their info. You'll need their full name and address, including postal code, for them to get a tax receipt. You can use their email or your own.

Or fill in one of our downloadable, printable Multi-Donation forms.

Raffle & Prizes
You will receive one free raffle ticket for each $100 raised. So you may wish to top up your fundraising to reach a milestone, or even to reach your fundraising goal!

There are also prizes at certain levels of fundraising, like Centre gift certificates and Muse headbands, as well as awards for top fundraisers.
